One question that we’re often asked by customers here at MyMemoryMattress is “will my memory foam mattress smell?”.

If you’re reading this because you’re looking to purchase a memory foam mattress, but have been put off by reports of the smell of new memory foam, then don’t worry – we’ll allay your fears!

Memory foam mattresses are made from a type of visco-elastic polyurethane, a highly resistant body heat-reactive material. When new, sometimes the memory foam has a distinct smell that dissipates quicker the longer it is allowed to air. In some instances, the glue used to bond the high density foam base to the memory foam mattress may also produce a distinct smell that again dissipates upon airing, particularly during hot summer months.
